Originally went in for my old lab when he got sick. They were very caring and prescribed medicine. He had a bad reaction to medicine and we had to put the dog down. Vet did inform me that this was a possibility so I did not hold blame with the vet. All in all, I was very happy with the experience except for the loss of my dog. I decided to bring my other 2 dogs in for their yearly shots. That's when it got awful. First they told me that they could not work an appointment around my schedule so they stated that my wife could drop them off and I would pick them up after they were done since we work different hours. They did not inform me that there was a cost to this even though I picked them up as soon as the call came that they were done. Next they added a bunch of things to the bill. Since my wife did not really know what they were talking about, She signed the forms thinking that was everything they needed. When I picked up the bill I was shocked at a $385.00 bill for shots on 2 dogs. After rejecting the flea and tick they were trying to shove down my throat, I managed to get under $300.00 however could not go lower than that since the work that my wife signed off on was already done. Then I went to get my dogs their Sentinal and was informed that I could only use the online site they recommended which was significantly higher in price. They say its because the other places aren't verified where the stuff is coming from and that may be true but I have been using that unverified stuff for over 10 years without any problems. Who are they to say how I am supposed to take care of my pets. It isn't like it is some sort of bad advertising to let the pet owner get it wherever they want. To sum up everything I have experienced at this place, if you are looking for a vet to take care of a serious problem with your pet in some way, they seem to be caring and affordable at least in comparison. As far as normal pet upkeep however, This very is like a machine. Very cold, expensive and bland. Lots of extras thrown at you so know exactly what you want prior to coming. As far as recommendations, it would depend on what you are going there for however I will never go back again.

Horrendous long wait and they weren't even busy, I was the only one in the waiting room. Tried to sell me on TONS of extra stuff totaling 300+ dollars. They are deceptive trying to make it sound like its necessary treatment but it's all just extra stuff. After I wasted my time waiting in the waiting room and haggling about all the extras I finally got my dog treated for his allergy problem and got out of there only spending $65, the actual cost of treating my dog for the issue I brought him there for in the first place.

Our dog Ubuntu (right rear leg amputation surgery and follow ups) has received nothing but the best from Dr. McKelroy and her staff. By the way, that guilt you feel, it's caused by you not doing something you should be doing. It says Hospital in their name, so you can hopefully be prepared to hear that your animal (which you may or not have cared for) will need additional treatment besides the ONE thing you may have brought them in for. Blaming that guilt on the one delivering the news is nothing but shooting the messenger. If you don't have the money to CARE for an animal, then don't bring one into your home.

Not a very good experience at this vet office. They try and push every kind of 'test' and blood work and whatever else they can on you. If you have any kind of budget whatsoever, too bad. They will not work with you at all in finding some other avenue of diagnosis or treatment. It doesn't seem like they put the animals first. Before they even pet your animal or try and look at them they are shoving paperwork in your face about all kinds of costs for all kinds of tests. If you do not agree to all their tests, they make you feel like you don't care about your baby or take care of them either. It was made clear to me by the look on the Dr's face and I did not appreciate it. I've owned dogs all my life, grew up with them. I'm not a doctor but I'm not an idiot either and that's exactly how they made me feel. Maybe if this place didn't focus so much on having a waiting room full of fancy dog clothes and weird food and other accessories for pets, they could lower their costs a bit. They are too fancy for their own good and should probably move their office to some ritzy area of downtown Dallas. Do yourself a favor and take your loved ones up the street, literally, to Rowlett Veterinary Clinic on HWY 66. Your pets will gets lots of TLC and AFFORDABLE care.

I've been going to this vet for years now. Dr. McKelroy is very friendly. My first visit with Smokey they were able to diagnose an ear issue he'd had for years that other vets just passed on. When Smokey developed cancer she really showed her true colors; she worked late to diagnose, contacted numerous specialists, and I believe she did everything she could for my cat. When Smokey finally passed away I received a handwritten "I'm sorry for your loss" card from the entire staff, and even to this day they remember Smokey. I get a real sense of friendliness and compassion from the staff, and even outside of the workplace they know me and my cats by name. For all the people discussing prices, yes Four Paws is on the pricier end of the spectrum; however, they have at no point pushed me to pay the maximum amount. They will sit and go over all of the options, discuss whether or not a specific treatment is necessary, e.g., rabies shot is required, but if the cat is indoor only flea treatment can be passed on. I honestly feel that the quality of care I've personally received from Four Paws is worth what I've spent there.
