This place is overpriced and was not compassionate towards me or my dog when my dog was very sick. I got my dog from the Houston SPCA, and the only reason we came to this vet was because we were given a $500 credit to bring my dog to this specific vet. I had never owned a pet before, and I didn't know the average cost of taking a pet to the vet, especially a sick one. Well, the $500 credit was nearly used up after one visit. My dog was very scared to be at the vet, and scared around most people in general (he had just come from a shelter), and the vet called him a "weenie" (he is a 45 pound dog, not a dachshund) and seemed annoyed that I was crying, which I felt was very insensitive, especially since both the dog and I were stressed out about the whole ordeal. Even though my dog was sick, I would get $500+ estimates for useless vitamins and medications for the dog's coat and nails, etc. when all I was worried about was the sickness. They seemed annoyed when I would give them a budget of how much I was going to spend and to keep everything necessary for that budget. I went to a secondary vet (Dr. Huddleston from Westheimer Animal Clinic, best vet I've had by far) who is extremely understanding and compassionate. He did not charge me for medication which cured my dog, and he did not charge me for a follow up visit, since he felt bad that I was taken advantage of by the previous vet. He even found a large abscess on my dog's backside that the other vet had completely missed. (My dog has very long hair, so it was easy for me to miss). In short, unless you are very rich and willing to spend lots of money on your dog for every minute detail, do not visit this vet.
These people are truly disgusting. They returned my cat to me DEAD but pretended that he was still alive so that I could transport him to another facility for observation or some bull that probably wasn't even necessary to begin with. YES, THEY ACTUALLY DID THIS. This is a cat that was jumping on counters and exploring every nook and cranny of the examining room just hours before. I should have known something was wrong when they were taking FOREVER to get my cat ready for transport, when the reception lady had tears in her eyes like she'd been crying while she was charging my credit card nearly $1400 (and I was still under the impression that he was fine), when the assistant person FINALLY brought my cat out and said something weird right off the bat like "I know he looks really bad but.." and seemed to nervously assure me that he was okay without me even having to ask. My cat was just lying there motionless in the crate with tubes everywhere and he did look absolutely dead, but they acted like he wasn't and I didn't question it because I assumed they were honest, caring professionals who would know a dead cat when they saw one or handled one. Imagine my shock when low and behold I was told that my cat was dead upon arrival at the other facility only 8 minutes later. It's utterly despicable how they could do that to cover their asses. Completely unethical. What did they do to my cat to warrant such a ridiculous, cruel lie? Just how incompetent were they? His heart had stopped beating from being over-sedated for God knows how long and from who knows how many unnecessary battery of tests to inflate the bill. There was also some mention of the blood work machine not working correctly that day so it was just a big fat unprofessional mess. From some other reviews, this facility apparently has a BIG problem anesthetizing pets without having their hearts stop. Mine wasn't the first and surely won't be the last. Whoever's in charge of that should be terminated immediately because he's clearly an incompetent idiot and doesn't have a clue what he's doing (and would definitely lie about killing your cat to cover himself). It's absolutely correct what people are saying about this place: they only care about the money, not the pets or the owners. What kind of place lies about your pet being alive when they've killed him? These people are just sick and should be ashamed of themselves. They did send me a condolence card A MONTH AFTER my cat's death, tactlessly bringing back all the sadness and grief that I was finally beginning to handle. Thanks so much. I wish I'd never heard of this place. It was such a huge mistake bringing my cat here, and I'll regret it for the rest of my life.
Your ok at this place if you have a healthy pet but if your beloved fur ball get sick...forget it! Brought my little puppy here the first time and they pushed a puppy health plan on me...cared more about that. I called them up one morning in a almost panic because my puppy was so very sick and I thought he was going to die. She said to bring him in, I did, AND I WAITED FOR 3 HOURS. What the heck?? Finally, I'm taken back to the room with my little darling and wait forever more. I started to freak out because my puppy started acting like he was going to stop breathing. The Doctor came in, and said it could be anything from a digested toy, parasites, shunt, etc. Everything across the spectrum could be wrong with my 16 week, 3 pound puppy. Puppy was dehydrated and had low glucose. His treatment plan was going to cost 1300.00. They wouldn't even do simple tests, like Parvo, etc. 1300.00, that was only for one day of hospitialization. While my puppy is laying there feeling horrible, the doctor was in and out trying to come to a mutually agreed price. THAT WAS THE PRIORITY...MONEY! I felt like I was at a car dealership!! I thought my puppy was going to die, so I let them give him fluids sub q and brought him home. For them to give him sub q fluids and check glucose it was over 150.00. The next morning my puppy was doing terrible still so I took him to Cole Veterinary Hospital and they are going to do so much more for him. Two days stay, excellent treatment for half the cost. But the most important thing, they care when VCA didn't. That says a lot to me. This Vet is the Vet for Pet Fair. Pet Fair gets ALL their puppies from puppy mills. If this vet really cared about animals he would not be partners with this store. 100% of puppies from puppy mills are sick one way or another, VCA is profitting from puppy mills just as the pet store is.
We've taken all 3 of our animals there.....2 cats and 1 dog. We had a 14 year old dog that we had to put to sleep and the staff was extemely caring during this time. About a month after that, we received a cast of our dogs foot print and a card that was personally signed by everybody in the office. I'm not sure where all of these negative posts are stemming from, but if it's a money thing, then maybe you shouldn't be pet owners. Pets cost money and we have tried to cut corners before with taking them to cheaper facilities and once we came home with a sick cat because of that. We like to save money like the next person, but the staff and doctors at The Woodlands VCA are exceptional and TRULY care for your animals.
I have taken my 14 year old Golden Retriever to VCA and its predecessor for 14 years. I have NEVER had a problem. We used to board her at the old location but they were always full so we found an alternative. She goes at least twice a year for check-ups, they know her by name and are very caring, knowledgable. I have ALWAYS been presented with an accurate estimate of services. They have also called numerous times after her visits/ injuries to check on her-more than my doctors ever have. They have an after hours number, and I have ALWAYS been informed of holiday hours/ closures. The prior posts sound like sour grapes. Pet care is NOT cheap, that is why pet insurance exists now. Shame on you for blaming your lack of knowledge on the staff at VCA.
