Dr. Baudy provides excellent, compassionate care. My wife and I drive 80 miles, round-trip, out of our way, so our cats can have the best care in Houston. The office staff members and vet techs are courteous and professional. We are so Blessed to have found Dr. Baudy through the Houston SPCA when we rescued our cats.
A confused, less than helpful experience in the final hours of a family pet. I saw Dr. Rogge for our "rescue" pet, who we had seen previously for the free checkup provided by the Houston SPCA. Our cat, Loki, was extremely sick. Dr. Rogge thought he had an initial idea of what was going on, but after seeing the X-Ray, he became visibly confused. After discussing his history and examining a blood sample, there was no progress on figuring out what was wrong with Loki. We were given a price of a potential overnight stay -- none of which had any promise of curing his health -- and asked for another option, which we ended up taking (steroids and antibiotics). After being counseled on how to home care for out cat, we went home, and Loki died later that night. Now, I am certain Loki would have passed away regardless of the vet we brought him to. What disturbs me was the lack of composure and the neglect to see additional symptoms (they missed that he was breathing heavily and had unusually yellow urine). Part of that was on us for not mentioning it, but there were stained sheets and a cat laboring to breathe right in front of them. Despite all of that, and never being told what may be wrong with the cat, I accepted his fate. No blame to Dr. Rogge. Where blame is deserved is in follow up care. First of all, they knew Loki was on death's door. Why no call to see how he was in the morning? I was the one that called, two days later. Further, despite leaving a message, I still have yet to hear from Dr. Rogge. I didn't want a shoulder to cry on, but I wanted to discuss what may have killed him (research indicates it might have been effusive FIP, but hey, not like I deserve to talk to my vet about that). Don't go to VCA if you care about your animal, because the veterinarians and the staff there certainly do not care.
Took my sick dog there to find out what was wrong w/ her and had to leave for a school meeting. I did receive a phone call from the vet explaining what might be wrong and that it would be recommended to get x-rays and any lab work necessary to try and determine the problem. Of course being a little naive I said "yes". Upon returning he explained her illness gave me some meds and the most outrageous price for my vet bill was $788! Mind you this is for a dog that weighs only 7lbs! I just wish they would of given me a heads up that my bill might be pricey. I have never had a vet bill that high before. Just not sure if I want to continue to bring my dog there when I'm sure there are plenty of other vet clinics that might be reasonably priced where I live.
I went to this particular vet because when I adopted my dog from the HSPCA shelter they gave me a free wellness check up at any VCA animal hospital. I scheduled the exam at 5:30 and didn't get to see a doctor till 45 minutes later. The vet tech that came in right before 6 just started asking me random questions about my dog but didn't know much when I was asking him questions and it just seemed like he was trying to waste time. After the exam it took an extra 20 minutes just to get an estimate on her puppy shots and a prescription for a flea and heartworm prevention. The staff were not very helpful when I called in to try and ask about the vaccinations she needed. When I asked them if there would be an office visit charge when I come in for her vaccinations they said oh no you don't even have to make an appointment just come on in and they also told me that I only have to pay the charge for the office visit if something is wrong with my dog and I need to talk to the doctor. I walked in the office the next day to pick up some medicine for my puppy and wanted to schedule an appointment for her vaccines just so I could have a date in my planner and once we set up a date they said you will have to pay for the office visit and vaccines. I told the manager I just spoke with someone yesterday and they specifically said I would not need to pay for the office visit if I was just coming in for vaccines. The manager was not helpful or understanding at all. She just pretty much told me too bad so sad and that she didn't know who I talked to so... I walked out and just thought I am never going back to a vet office that is not educated on there pricing or medicine. Would never recommend this clinic to anyone, waste of time and money.
I took a very, very sick cat in this weekend because Dr. Cox (our regular vet) was closed. I am very disappointed at how bad the service has been. Although I was assured Saturday by three different people (including Dr. Roberson) that our lab results would definitely be back this morning, no one called me at all this morning. I called the office twice and no one would tell me anything. Finally someone has now called me back -- turns out they hadn't even sent out the lab work until just now and it won't be back until tomorrow. No one I spoke with today has once asked me how our cat is doing which I find alarming. There appears to be no follow up care here at all. The level of care and attention to detail here seems to be far, far below what I am used to with Dr. Cox at Sugar Creek and prices appear to be similar (I spent $500 here this weekend).
