I started using this facility when they were still in Orem in 2011. (They used to be Pet Medical Center of Utah Valley. Be sure to check those reviews too, there's a reason when businesses change their names!) I took my male show dog there for them to catch and store sperm. They did several catches. They said the motility was low but they assured me it could still successfully produce pups. I then paid for several years of storage. In October 2014 I took my female there for them to start the insemination process. Their lab tech was awful at blood draws, making my girl yelp then was stupid enough to say it doesn't really hurt them inferring that my dog was just being a baby. Would you like a blood draw in your neck?! I paid for several two hour trips one way for blood draws to test her hormone levels so they would know when to inseminate. I had to ask and ask questions as well as look up info online because they don't give out any literature and are not very clear about the process. They inseminated and sent me on my way with papers showing the "whelping date". They even encouraged me to come back for prenatal care and an ultrasound. I used a closer vet and found my girl was not pregnant, not even one pup! After time, gas, vet bills I was into it about $1700 and 4 years of waiting. Long and short, this facility has a corner on the market in Utah for canine reproduction so they really don't care whether they're successful or not. Don't waste your money with storage and freezing. They just tell you what you want to hear and gladly take your money. They take no responsibility for negative outcomes even though they are supposed to be experts in this field. Maybe they do better with live catches but I could do that myself (and have before) so you really don't need to waste your money on a Vet when you can get a semen collection kit on eBay! So since their frozen collections do not work I don't see any value using South Mountain Pet Care, run the other way!

I have been a long time customer of Carl Pew at both of offices. A couple of years ago Lucy took a tumble off a terrace and nearly bled to death. The emergency clinic we initially took her to got her fluid level up via an IV but could not figure out why she didn't snap out of it. We then took her the next day to Carl and he correctly diagnosed her massive blood loss, lungs partially filled, and possible rupture of her diaphragm. She was well taken care of and is healed from that incident. We have three bullies and we always insist on Carl Pew being the vet. I wonder about other reviewers and their account of what happened, as you might mine. I know of his fame with ear cropping. If he had made a diagnosis, after so many thousands of operations, I would bank on it. If you had doubts, get a second opinion. Lucy is nearing 12 years old, and Carl Pew will be our primary counsel on her senior issues. It is an emotional time bringing your beloved family member in for care, and judgements are not necessarily objective. Finally, we cannot double blind a vet. Another vet's diagnosis might have arrived at the same conclusion, there is no reboot when it comes to life.

Hands-down, the rudest doctor I have ever come into contact with. We took our 6-month-old German Shepherd in, to get his ears taped (to help them stand). First of all, the nurse tried to take his temperature (what dog likes a thermometer in their butthole?) and gave up, saying: "we'll just pretend I took his temperature). You better hope my dog is not sick, or I'm kicking ass. Second of all, the doctor felt my dog's ears for 2 seconds, and claimed they were never going to stand up, because he is older than 20 weeks old. Um, I have been around German Shepherds my entire life. There is not a set time, it depends solely on their teething process. My husband nicely responded: "Really? Because we've been told that you're supposed to tape them after they're done teething. We've been informed that 8 months is when it starts to become too late" (by every German Shepherd specialist ever). He then responded, VERY RUDELY, "WELL, DOCTOR GOOGLE DOESN'T KNOW EVERYTHING, NOW DOES HE?" My husband is a Police Officer. He deals with very rude and inconsiderate people, on a daily basis. But this was unacceptable.

They are great! The are the only vet that can do progesterone tests for my dog so she can be inseminated which they also do! I love it! I drive from East Layton to bring my dog to them.

I recently switched to this vet and my dog's first appointment was to get spayed. My dog is my only baby and I was terrified. The day I made the appointment and again a few days before surgery I called the office to ask some questions. I was reassured about the surgery and they spent as much time as possible explaining everything. I was not rushed at all on any calls or when I dropped her off. I even took one of her favorite toys since she had to spend the night and the vet called me to tell me she did great and stated she had her toy and was sleeping. The girls here and the vets are fantastic. I could not be happier. Pricing is about average with other vets but they appear to be more thorough then I have seen. The office is cleaner then a normal doctors office. And their operating tables and kennels are heated so your animal is comfortable. Best experience I have ever had with a vet.
