Our English Bulldog of 11 yrs. was taken to Ribbonwood to have a small ball removed from his stomach, we dropped him off at 9:30am with the assurance that he would be well taken care of, and to check on his condition at 4:00 pm. when he should be done with his surgery. We called at 4:00pm and was told that the Dr. had other surgery's , but he was almost done with our dog, and we would be hearing from him. An hour later we called again , we were told again that the Dr. was still working on him, but was again, almost done , and again we would hear from him. We called again after another hour, now 6:00pm, and was told that the Dr. removed the ball , a he was just stitching him up.They said our dog was doing just fine, and they would like to keep him over-night for "observation". They assured us he would be "monitored" . Early next morning we received the call that our dog had passed during the night. They told us that they left at about mid-nite (staff and Dr. conflicted on time), came back at 7:00am and found him dead. Dr. DeGering 1st. told me he died of affixiation (swallowed vomit), then changed his story to pneumonia , then later said it may have been an aneurism. When I asked why they left him alone , knowing this breed is prone to affixiation, Dr. DeGering said his "was not a 24 hr. facility". He acted as if I was to be satisfied with that answer. Had I known our dog would be left alone I could have insisted (at my expense of course) for overnight staff... or I would have brought him home to watch myself. Dr. DeGering treated our dog in the past, shots,exams..etc. and did a fine job, however, if you have a specialty breed, or a special needs dog , with special problems, you may want to reconsider.
I've taken my dog here regularly...when she was a puppy, and then again when we moved back. The vet is very attentive. I was particularly impressed when I took her in for her annual teeth cleaning and the vet told me she didn't need it, her teeth looked great, and he didn't want to put her under if it wasn't neccessary. Most vets, I've found, love to up-sell, so this was impressive to me.
I have been taking my pets to Dr. DeGering for many years. He is such an amazing Vet and cares for the animals. I also love their staff. They are always willing to answer any of my questions and call to check up on my animals if they are sick to make sure they are getting better. I also board my dogs there and they LOVE to stay there!!! They are always excited to see them and come home happy as ever with tails a waggin! Thank you Dr. DeGering and your staff for your compassion and love for our animals!
Dr. Degering has been taking care of my family's pets for 21 years. If you need ANYTHING done for your animals, go to Ribbonwood Animal Hospital. If your pets are suffering in any way, if you have a small job or a big job, Dr. Degering has seen it all and I feel so relaxed and trusting when with him. This example says a lot: (and convey's what I am trying to convey) I took my dog in because she got something in her ear, and it was bothering her. So... one clinic said "well, we'd better take x-rays first, to make sure what's in there, and so we can know if we're going to get it all." That is your REGULAR vet. But no, Dr. Degering with all of his care and experience, he says to me "Well, I will try. If i can't see anything or solve her problem, I might need to sedate her or take an x-ray, but hopefully it won't get to that point." and then, after ten full minutes, he brings my dog back along with a piece of barbed wheat-grass, and he says "Well, once I got in there, I could see something deep in her ear canal, and I was able to snag it right out." Here's why this is significant, because, it's no different than a car-mechanic, or any situation where you trust a professional. He could have just as easily told me it would require MORE care and MORE costs. But, in his 30+ years experience, he probably also had CONFIDENCE that he could see and fix the problem. AND SO HE DOES, AND THEN CHARGES YOU $42 OR $59 instead of charging you some exorbitant fee. THE SERVICES OF DR. DEGERING ARE WORTH MUCH, MUCH MORE THAN HE CHARGES ME, BECAUSE TO ME I AM PAYING FOR 30+ YRS OF EXPERIENCE, AND HE IS COMPLETELY CARING, genuine, he remembers you and your animals, Listen to what I leave you with and really ponder it's simplicity, because it summarizes why I drive 45miles to Ribbonwood: "Dr. Degering genuinely cares about me, myself, and my animals. He remembers us by name, and he makes you think he's happy to see you again." Oh i love my vet (I'll stop gushing now)
I had an interaction with them in regards to their adoption services. What great people!
