My dog had heartworm treatment at Sunshine. I found their staff to be warm and friendly throughout the process. Furthermore, they don't do unnecessary procedures that other vets willingly do to increase the cost. I highly recommend them.
We have been taking our dog to sunshine for close to two years now. They are not just friendly but also take their time to explain all options and costs associated with any treatment. They have stayed late to suture my dog and respond to emails at all hours. They provide great service at a great price.
My wife and I had a cryptorchid chocolate lab—only one of his testicles descended by six months of age. Unfortunately for our poor, little guy (Henry), there was no indication of the location of the “missing” testicle. Oftentimes, this testicle partially descends into the inguinal canal (groin area where there isn’t much hair), and a bulge provides a clue as to where the testicle is located. Henry had no such bulge. Every indication for Henry was that the testicle was still in the abdomen, which had my wife and I worried about a more complicated procedure involving a “blind” search for a hidden testicle followed by a long, painful recovery. We researched vets, particularly those who would allow us to use our Spay, Inc. discount for neutering, and Dr. Kastner seemed to be the best option. He provided us with a lot of time and information prior to the procedure, and he was very patient as Henry’s over-protective parents worried about which vet to pick. We’re happy we chose Dr. Kastner. Immediately prior to the surgery, and despite prior evidence, Dr. Kastner searched long and hard to find a sign that the testicle was in the inguinal canal before going into the abdomen. A small sign gave Dr. Kastner the impression that the testicle had atrophied and was present in the canal. His hunch proved correct, and Dr. Kastner’s skill prevented the more complicated (and presumably painful) surgery. Henry’s recovery went well except for a minor infection, but a short visit to a very accessible Dr. Kastner remedied the situation quickly. If you’re a protective parent to a dog that means the world to you, you’re in safe hands with Dr. Kastner.
I compared the prices of animal hospital around and Sunshine offers the lowest price. Dr. Kastner always try to spend enough time on my dog and also let me understand what is going on with him. I love all their staff. Always very friendly and nice.
I have mixed feelings about the new vet and his staff. Dr. Kastner is very nice and professional and I LOVE that he gives me the least expensive options FIRST instead of speeding right to the high-tech, pricey things I can't afford. He explains things well and isn't condescending. BUT -- his front-desk staff is terrible. Most of them do NOT speak English, but I guess they think they do, because they will babble at you and then expect you to understand them. The one Korean lady is very cold and will not smile. So altho I like the doc, I may have to find another place to go if he doesn't improve his front desk people.
