I used Blacksburg Animal Clinic for three years while at Tech. I loved the staff and always thought the prices were fair. My dog did have a stomach condition that was wrongly diagnosed by the staff which was a waste of money until I took my dog to the vet school at VT. However, the rest of the time the staff was spot on and friendly. I have since moved and used two new vets and none of them compare.
we have used dr. jones (and staff) for 20+ years (in fact took our dog max in today...kennel cough) always 100% pleased. at the beginning, and at the end, we trust them completely.
Both my dogs had to come in for a teeth cleaning and little did we know our male had a bad infection. He was very lethargic and just didn't want to eat or drink the day we took him home. The staff at Blacksburg Animal Clinic told us to bring him back in the next day and they will run some test and take care of him at no charge. To make a long story short he passed put the staff were nothing but helpful and caring and not once was money an issue. They wanted us to pay when we could and though we did pay right there they probably would've waited a little bit just as well. I couldn't thank them enough for trying everything they could and never once hound us for money that we sometime don't have right then. Absolutely professional and caring and I would go out of my way to make sure they are always the care takers of my pets! Thank you so much for your dedication and love for your patients!
My dog ingested something that was making her sick. I called T&C because of their after hours availability. I was told to come in right away for an emergency appointment which would cost me $80 (they were emphatic about the price). I raced to the vet and WAITED. My dog was collapsing and then sitting back up...to collapse again and they left me waiting. WHY would I pay $80 for an emergency appointment just to wait for a vet? At the time I had a broken wrist and my thinking was maybe she ingested one of my pills for my wrist but was very unsure b.c I am extra cautious with medication and pets. I mentioned this to the vet. She then advised that the dog must of consumed my medication and they would need to put her in ICU for at least 2 days and I need to sign a paper saying I agree to ALL unforeseen costs and that I had to agree to pay at least $600 based on their estimate of treatment. First, I am devastated about my dog. Second, I need to know how they are going to treat her. They could not answer that. My gut told me to leave the place - they were so focused on the money that I could not get them to tell me what they would do to get her better. I did not care about the money - I cared about my dog surviving. When I questioned signing the paper without knowing a treatment plan, they had another vet come in to talk to me...about the money. At that point, I asked them to bring my dog back to me because I did not feel like this place would properly care for her, the 2nd vet actually said "THIS IS NOT SUBSIDIZED VETERINARY CARE". The fact that I did not say what I wanted to say to this lady was a miracle. It took me several times of demanding my dog be brought to me. And they had the time to tell me if I left with her they could not guarantee she would survive the drive to another vet. They had to time tell me many things, but nothing about a course of treatment. They wrongly assumed that my hesitation was about the $. It was about their focus on the $ and not the care of my dog. Even though we ended up not receiving emergency care because the regular vet was taking over for the emergency vet when I got there, I did pay my bill of $80 on the way out. A lot of people told me I should of just walked out without paying, but it was never about the money and if I left without paying, there is no doubt that they would have concluded I wanted free care. I brought my dog to Blacksburg Animal Clinic where they carefully examined her first - spent time to tell me what they could do to help stabilize her and then what they would do if they could not stabilize her. The LAST thing they mentioned was the cost. She was given IV fluids to protect her organs and help flush the toxins out. She made a complete recovery and I was able to bring her home that night. I firmly believe if I left her in the care of T&C, she would of been dead.
Both my family and myself have taken our pets to Dr Jones for as long as I can remember. Prices are always low and come second to care. Always quick and Annabelle LOVES him!
