It is somehow hard to review the place, when all the contact that you have with the service provided is the pick-up and drop off of your dog. So, this review is based solely on that: the pick-up, drop-off, and on the state of my dog afterwards. The facilities look professional and clean, and the staff is helpful and affable. I like the fact that your dog has to be up-to-date with the vaccinations, and that you're not allowed to bring the bed (to avoid fleas related issues). Some people might not like the former requirement, because if you're dog is not up-to-date, you'll have to pay to get the needed vaccines. However, in my case, my dog was up-to-date, and I feel that this is a good policy to avoid your beloved dog getting some disease from the population of the retreat. If you bring your dog here, you definitely have to understand that this is a kennel, and that you're dog is going to spend most of the time in a crate. Also, what you get is what you pay for. If you want more space, you'll have to pay more. So getting to the point. It is not cheap, we paid around $500 for a full week, for the second smallest crate and the "pampered puppy" program. When we picked up our dog, she was completely fine, and her behavior was completely normal. 2 days after being back home, there's no issue with her either health related of behavioral. She's her normal self... Well actually, she's behaving even better. She had had some obedience training before, and i think that the people working there might have been stricter than me, so she's very obedient at the moment. Let's see if that lasts. We'll be on long a vacation again later this year, and we'll definitely use the services of the retreat again.
I went looking for an alternative to our existing vet in South Riding after problems. We have an elder dog that was 12 and dealing with constant seizures. I was happy that they were able to see us right away. Dr. James Lupton was our doctor. He listened with care and offered a medical solution. Our solution need to be tested and adjusted. When we called over multiple time . he would either talk to us or call us back quickly. I just went back to get a refill on the meds. He came out to talk and knew who we were. We don’t always get this level of service in our area.
Dulles Gateway Pet Resort is great! We have been taking our two golden retrievers there for 5+ years and they absolutely love it! The staff provides you with a detailed report about your dog's behavior, eating habits and overall well being when you pick them up. My dogs always leave Dulles Gateway happy and adjust quickly back in the home. Th staff does a great job at getting to know your animal and even brought one of our dogs inside once when he appeared scared during a storm. Would recommend this place to anyone!!!!
The staff here has always been great with our dog, and she always came home happy but tired from having so much fun. We did typically upgrade to the "Pampered Puppy" Package, which included an extra walk and a Frosty Paws dessert for the dogs. I also like getting the detailed report cards and photo of our dog with the person who played with her during her stay there. My dog also had medication that she needed, and they were always good about administering them. They're certainly not cheap by any means, but they are worth every penny in peace of mind (especially with our own Pender vets available conveniently) and the level of care and love my dog receives during her stay.
If you are looking for professional grooming services, this is not the place for you. If you'd like a clean and impressive kennel that puts a lot of care into their pet sitting service then by all means go here. If your pet has a thick undercoat, they do not have a blower at all, let alone a professional blower with a high air volume/speed e.g. 160MPH/85CFM. I had to redo my dog's grooming at another 'groomer with the proper equipment and removed 1/2 of a kitchen trash bag of undercoating and loose fur. They also charged me for nail clipping but hadn't done them. Nails were clearly scuffed and pointy as opposed to showing fresh clip or grind. When I called them back on this, they lied, claiming to have clipped them but left them long. It doesn't take a pro to see the difference between a freshly cut square nail and a worn pointy nail... not a fib one should attempt. One ding for lack of proper equipment, one ding for lack of integrity. Average.
