I have taken my dog to Dr. Freedman for 5 years. He absolutely loves animals and is amazing with my dog. When she had a seizure last year, his wonderful and friendly staff immediately made room for her bright and early the next morning and Dr. Freedman fully informed me with helpful information regarding the situation. I take my cat there as well, and Dr. Freedman and his staff are just as wonderful with him! They also do not perform any unnecessary and expensive tests, so it is very easy to trust their opinions. He takes time to not only diagnose problems but make your pet feel loved and comfortable. After moving to a new state and attempting to find a vet that matches up to Dr. Freedman, I've realized this is SO important and rare. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help you. I've recommended Dr. Freedman's office to many of my friends with dogs and they find the services of the office equally amazing. Highly recommended!!
First, let me say that Dr. Freedman and his team have shown excellent care for my 4 month old puppy. I have no doubt that they have done everything correctly, medically speaking, for my dog. They have also provided a lot of helpful information to me as a new dog owner. However, a few things made me feel uncomfortable with Dr. Freedman, and I will be switching vets soon because of them. Since the first visit, the vet has liked to inspect my pup's mouth- totally normal and good, but of course sometimes she doesn't like having his hand in her mouth (even though I 'play with her mouth' at home). When she resists, the Dr. picks her up by the scruff, shakes her, and loudly says "No No" in her face. She screams and cries, in what seems like pain. Now, I know that a lot of people do this to their dog, but I am following a different set of 'positive' training techniques- and I do NOT do this. The doctor has never asked me if I am okay with him disciplining my dog in this way- he just goes ahead and does it. Secondly, once my pup ingested a cooked bone and I had to take her to get x-rayed. I was worried sick about her - bloody diarrhea etc. The vet told me to drop her off for 4 hours... I asked if I could wait with her and they seemed to think that was really strange. So I dropped her off and spent the whole time pacing around, stressing out. I talked to a few friends who say their vets never made them do a drop off with their pet. Also, this is probably common with vets, but the staff seemed to really push certain brands of dog food, products, etc-- often without having a real reason for choosing those over other brands.
I felt reassured by my decision to take my pets to Albermarle Clinic almost immediately. The assistants at the desk received us not just like another new client but in a warm, yet efficient way to make all of us feel looked after. This of course was only the beginning, Cindy received Paddington our dog and Martini and Ethel our cats with warmth and showed immediately her professional touch, she was ready to hear my concerns and went out of her way to facilitate our needs. Dr Freedman was impeccably professional with gentile warmth and great sense of humour. After the first visit, Ethel needed surgery, my confidence in the whole team was right: professionalism with human warmth made the whole experience a very positive one. I have lived in many countries and visited many clinics but Albermarle Clinic has a unique quality that separates it from the rest.
I'm not going to bring my dog here anymore because their prices are ridiculous. $100 for 6 months worth of heartworm treatment and $40 for a nail trim. Tons of hidden charges. Be careful because you might end up with a bill that is much higher than what is originally quoted.
Both Dr Freedman and Dr Carlson are top notch veterinarians. They and the rest of the staff at this hospital are kind to my animals and very knowledgeable. I wouldn't trust my pet's health care to anyone else.
