My first visit was definitely my last! I actually am a technician, and I decided to come here really just for the convince at the time, and the fact they seemed to have cheaper prices on vaccines. The staff was very polite, but not very accommodating, in fact the set up of the entire facility was not very accommodating for me or my dog. When I was led into their exam room, the assistants seemed very unorganized and inexperienced. Their first attempt was to force my dog to do what they wanted, instead of even trying to give him the opportunity to do the task himself. He will willingly get on the table if you ask him to..it only stresses him out more when others try to man handle him. But definitely the most disappointing part of this visit was the doctor! When he came into the room he never introduced himself, offered his hand, or even met eyes with me; and I'm a new client! His physical exam consisted all of putting a hand on his back, listening to his heart for all of 5 seconds, and giving his face a quick look over. He NEVER checked his ears with an otoscope or his eyes, never palpated his abdomen for masses or pain or swelling, nor checked his paws, his skin folds, or his lungs (and if he was "checking" his lungs when he held his stethoscope to him for all of 5 seconds he surely didn't check both sides or any of the compartments of his lungs)! He never checked his joints for flexion or pain, and never checked his teeth or even opened his mouth!! The exam lasted all of 2 min.s, which is HORRIBLE!! He then proceeded to give vaccines, of which he didn't need to explain to me because of my experience, but he didn't know that. It would have been nice for him to build a relationship with a new client and say "First I'm giving him a distemper, which protects him against.." and so on, to stress the importance or even to just add some kind of client education to this visit. I was also VERY upset with where and how he decided to give the vaccines. There is a basic standard, that you give the rabies low in the right rear leg and the distemper either in the front left leg or you can give the vaccine in the left rear leg ( all so if there is a reaction to the vaccine you will KNOW which vaccine is doing it, and if you need to amputate it is low enough to do so *though this is very rare**). This doctor decided it'd be a great idea to give both vaccines RIGHT BEHIND THE OTHER in the MIDDLE OF HIS BACK.... never have I experienced such disregard for such a BASIC practice! There is a REASON for giving vaccines the way we do, and the fact that he can't administer core vaccines or even give my dog a proper physical exam is HORRIFYING!! I can only imagine the attention and treatment their regular clients/patients receive! I definitely will NOT be coming back to this place! What an awful experience..
We were new to the area and got a coupon in the mail, so I took my cats there. My older cat was a well-controlled diabetic. The vet changed her insulin to a less expensive brand. I noticed it called for a different size needle and questioned him about the dosage. He said to just give her the same dosage. If I did that it would have killed her. When I objected he very off-handedly said, oh yeah, you are right, here is a conversion. What he did not tell me is the insulin he recommended is a very unstable-its made of odds and ends of other batches, so sometimes its really strong and sometimes its weak. After a couple of days we rushed her to another vet-her glucose level was under 50! We also boarded them there once. When we got back we were presented with a huge bill for an unnecessary test as well. If you need a vet I highly recommend Animal Medical Center on Battlefield. Dr Carrico is sympathetic, never rushes you and explains everything. She is very good about letting you make decisions about your pet-no unnecessary treatments or tests. Her staff is great too.
On my first visit last year i though the employees were quite rude and inconsiderate. This time they seemed a little better. But They did not seem too concerned when i brought my pet in. They suggested a couple things they could do, but did not give the impression that is was really necessary at the moment and never explained the complications or effects of doing or not doing the tests and now several days later my beloved pet is gone. Maybe I am partly to blame for not getting a second opinion but I do not feel they gave me the information I needed to make an informed decision. I do not have much experience with sick animals so maybe i am a bit unedcated in this area but I would not take another pet here and will not recommend them to anyone.
The staff was very nice and were kind and helpful. Very professional and pet friendly.
