Three years ago, I was a new puppy mom and had been recommended to Dr. Escobar for my dog's care. From the first, my puppy has loved going there--everyone from Dr. Escobar on down has been inordinately compassionate, responsive and impressively competent. And you know puppies can get into trouble. During his first months, our pup managed to wrestle the innersole out of one of my shoes. When I noticed some black matter around his mouth, I realized he'd been chewing on the foam lining of the innersole. Springfield said it would be a good idea to bring him in. Since I had some critical errands to run, I figured I'd finish them and then run Will in. Five minutes into my errands, I received a call from them, wondering where Wilie was. I hadn't realized the critical nature of foam in a puppy's stomach, and had him there pronto. They treated him and watched him the rest of the day to ensure he hadn't actually ingested the foam. Of course, all my pup was interested in was the doggie treat as he left. Three years later, he still can't wait to get out of the car there. And I love watching Dr. Escobar as he lovingly handles and talks to my dog. I think Willie would do anything for him.
Like Dr. Baldwin, I feel the need to respond to the comments made by Ms. Sorenson. Over the last 35+ years that I have owned, raised, trained and bred Labrador Retrievers, I have gotten to know quite a few veterinarians. Both on a professional and personal level, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Steve Escobar, Kara Kolster and Chris Scotti. The facility is fantastic...one of the few clinics where I can have progesterone results back the same day as the blood is drawn!! At every pregnancy ultrasound for one of my dogs, I am given a copy of the ultrasound on CD, at no additional cost!! The equipment is state-of-the-art, the veterinarians are second to none and their staff always greets me by first name when I walk in the door. Despite the two hour drive to get there, I would not go anywhere else!!
I am new to google reviews...but just had to respond to Jennifer Sorenson's review of Springfield Veterinary Center. She did get some things right, to wit, Drs Scotti and Escobar are personable, compassionate, kind, and caring and their staff is top notch, efficient and kind. What she completely missed the boat on is the level of medicine and knowledge practiced there. I have known Dr Escobar for over 20 years and used his services on more than a few occasions. This may be surprising considering that I am also a veterinarian and have been practicing for over 40 years! So why did I take my animals to Dr Escobar? I did so because of his skill in the field of reproductive medicine. My personal, favorite dog needed a C-section and, of ALL the veterinarians in Richmond, including board certified specialists, there is no one I would trust more than Dr Escobar to operate on my dog. His hospital is equipped with up to date equipment, ultrasound, surgical monitors, digital radiography, laboratory analyzers and his staff is a well oiled team and Dr Escobar is a fine surgeon and also extremely cognizant of pain management and physiology so that my dog had her section, her puppy thrived, and she barely missed a beat as her comfort was assured as well as her speedy recovery. Every aspect of the dog and puppy's needs was considered...heated mats to keep puppies warm, experienced techs to revive puppies and monitor the bitch, etc. It just doesn't get any better than Springfield. It's almost as if Jennifer is describing some alternate reality because I cannot believe that she has visited the same hospital that I did. And my first experience with Springfield's expertise with birthing complications was not my last. I have had 3 C-sections done there and ALL were done with skill and care, and depth of knowledge that I would challenge anyone to surpass in any veterinary hospital in town. I have also had ultrasounds done to assess fetal development and viability...Dr Escobar KNOWS his medicine. In fact, I've attended several lecture and seminars given by him in various areas, such as multi-modal pain management that have been invaluable. As far as not 'boarding'...boarding is not within the scope of veterinary medicinal practice. Although some veterinary hospitals do offer boarding services, I have never recommended to any of my clients to board their animals at a veterinary hospital...I compare it to staying in a hospital instead of a hotel when you go on vacation. If an animal is too sick to stay at a boarding kennel, then it should be hospitalized. We have excellent critical care/specialty facilities in Richmond and part of being a GOOD veterinarian is knowing when to refer your patients. No veterinarian should be faulted for referring patients that need diagnostics or surgery better performed by a specialist..in fact they should be commended for doing what is in the best interest of the animal. So, if Drs Scotti or Escobar encountered something that needed referring, and did so, kudos to them for that, too. I have referred any number of clients to Springfield and will continue to do so. I have had NOTHING but positive feedback from clients that I have sent there. I am now thoroughly enjoying semi-retirement and will continue to look to Springfield when I need procedures that are beyond what I am prepared to handle and would encourage anyone who might be considering this hospital to go see for themselves what level of medicine is practiced there in spite of one seriously off base review. Addendum: Just out of curiosity, I called Springfield to see if they might have any idea what would prompt Ms Sorenson to write such a negative review. I guess I was not totally surprised to find that they had NO record of any Jennifer Sorenson ever being a client there. Enough said.
I too, as the reviews below, had been taking several animals there. However, what the people on here who wrote reviews do not know yet, as I did not, that until you have an animal with anything more than the basic problem, they will not be able to diagnose or treat it. If you are just going in for shots, virus, anything general, you will be fine. Once they get into anything more than that, they do not know what to do, as frankly, they cannot handle anything that requires more knowledge. There will be no diagnosis or treatment for anything requiring more than a checkup, shots, deworming and some blood work. Anything further, you are out of luck with these guys. They are also the most expensive in town but I never cared as I liked these guys so much and nothing is too expensive for my animals. I kept hoping they would increase their skills and do better. However, I have to say that both doctors are the most personable and nicest guys you ever want to meet. Their staff is great, friendliest, most efficient and appear very caring, more than I have ever experienced. They just are not equipped with any tools to take care of sick animals, including any boarding or medical care that requires anything remotely complicated. If I was rating personality and friendliness, they would be second to none. But, if you love your animals like I do, stay as far away as possible. You will never get a diagnosis or any treatment. They just cannot handle. The knowledge is just not there, but Scotti and Escobar are very nice people and I always liked them. Unfortunately, this is business.
not only are the dvms the best, but the staff raises the bar for any business as far as teamwork, customer service and attitude. Everyone seems to love their job and it shows, Buster loves his springfield family!
