Very friendly staff who genuinely cares about their animals. I called this morning with general questions about the qualities of a mixed breed versus a pure breed (first time potential pup owner). Very helpful, realistic and understanding. I look forward to bringing my pup here after I get him/her.
Recently switched from another Banfield to this location. TOTALLY better! Excellent service. Caring staff. With all of the problems my dog has, it's good to know that I can depend on Banfield Short Pump to take care of each and every one of his needs. They know me and him instantly and he hasn't even been a "patient" there long.
THE FOLLOWING IS THE WRITTEN NOTICE OF CANCELLATION I SENT TO THIS BANFIELD... This letter is to serve as my written notice to cancel the membership my three dogs: [Mine], [OtherA], and [OtherB]. Their Plan is set for renewal on 11/28/2010. I will not be renewing due to several reasons. Rate increase ($25/month per pet for the most basic plan) has rendered the plan unaffordable and not economically worthy. Banfield's procedures are generally more costly--as much as 300% more than private vets charge in the area. Meds dispensed is also signifigantly higher than what local veterinary practices charge. Even with percentage discount, all medications, tests, & procedure costs are VERY EXPENSIVE. And this is take consideration to the 20% discount which [MINE] is on... which is now $41/month per pet. Banfield stopped selling Frontline PLUS and Advantage flea/tick preventatives & instead choose to support the lower-quality FirstShield brand. I was recommended using FirstShield by Dr. Edwards during 1 of my visits--not even relevent to flea problems. I did not even express any discontent with the product I use--Frontline PLUS, always worked for me. I was being solicited on a product I do not need... and later found it to be ineffective and dangerous. It is widely known by educated pet owners and honest vets that FirstShield (rebranded label for SUMMIT VETPHARM's notorious Vectra 3D) is not only generally ineffective, but has more tracked cases of toxic poisoning on pets than the two most leading and trusted brand in flea & tick preventatives on the market Banfield used to carry: Frontline PLUS & Advantage. Any practicing vet who would recommend Vectra 3D (or First Shield, in the case with Banfield), over Frontline and Advantage is not to be fully trusted. Banfield almost certainly forced Dr. Edwards and the rest of the staff to promote the product over the competition in order to gain revenue--it is still not an excuse to bend vet ethic for the sole purpose of profit. Banfield as a whole is notorious having the PROFIT OVER PETS' WELL-BEING outlook of things. Although the vets at this location are not nearly as revenue-driven (instead, the 3 vets generally show compassion for the well-being of my pets) the other Banfield vets I read about during my research. I understand they're forced to sell unnecessary products to clients to increase revenue for the company (to gain profit like any business) and risk getting admonished or even terminated for doing otherwise. While I feel that the three vets here have generally been good and professional for the most part for the past 3 years since I've been a client here, I think eventually even they will be forced by Banfield to cast away ethic for the sake of profit. So I feel that it is best that I look for another primary veterinary care provider now before that happens. I hope this letter will motivate the three vets here to leave Banfield and seek to establish their own private practice or join an existing assiciated practice around the area where they will be free to act in the best interest of the client pets in their charge. The one thing that I have been very happy (and sad to leave behind) with are the two ever cheerful & loving receptionist Jessica D. and Toni (whom I understand no longer work there). These 2 know my dogs by name, even when we are just there at PetSmart looking around. During office visits with just [Mine], both Jessica & Toni are constantly inquiring about how [OtherA] and [OtherB] are doing (since they are not actually mine, don't live with me, but I just pay for their wellness plan and vet expense). During the lastest visit with just [OtherA] & [OtherB], Jessica even asked about how Muus's cyst-removal surgery went at Helping Hands Veterinary Sugical & Dental Care, even though I never told Banfield that I was taking him to Helping Hands. So if and when the 3 vets decide to leave Banfield and open up their own practice, be sure to take these two awesome ladies along!
