I first encoutered Bayside vet clinic circa Jan 07 when I brought a stray chocolate point himalayan, Coco, in for an exam. Dr. Wes Shoup was the vet. Dr. Shoup identified a problem with Coco which would require surgery. Because I had Coco for only a few days, he suggested that I make sure that I wanted to keep the cat. In April/May 2007, Coco had a successful surgery. Since that time, three other family cats are now patients with this practice, two at Bayside and the other at Mill Dam. In December 2009 I brought Coco to Dr. Shoup as she was not eating and had lost a lot of weight. Dr. Shoup advised that Coco had a tumor in her stomach. In the end, she had to be put to sleep. Dr. Shoup was very compassionate and kind. My past experience with a VB vet was in June 2006, when my older cat, Zack, was ill. The vet at the time suggested several treatments, to include a feeding tube and a trip to a radiologist, to prolong Zack's life. Very bad experience, in that I believe the vet knew that Zack could not be healed and chose to continue treatment which resulted in a $1500 bill between the vet and the radiologist, and a lot of trauma to Zack in his final days. Had I taken Zack to Dr. Shoup at Bayside, Zack would not have been exposed to extreme measures to prolong his life. Terminating the life of a pet is painful, but Dr. Shoup tells is honest about a situation and guides you to the right decision. The staff at both clinics are very thorough, organized and compassionate. My only regret I will have when I leave VB is that I doubt that I will find another veterinary practice like Bayside or another vet like Dr. Shoup.
