We run a nonprofit in New Hampshire that rescues disabled dogs, and we have taken at least a dozen different animals to Peak Veterinary Referral Center over the past two years. We have seen every specialist at Peak during that time -- the surgeon, both internists, cardiologist, oncologist, ophthalmologist, radiologist and physical therapist. This is an amazing place, full of talented, caring, highly trained veterinary specialists backed by a wonderful team of professional support staff. We have always been impressed with the superb standard of care our animals receive at Peak. The atmosphere is friendly, collegial, and very caring. We use our local vet for the routine things, but for anything else, Peak is where we take our dogs. I noticed some reviewers have said Peak is "expensive," but I guess that depends on what skills and capabilities your local vet has and what they charge for. Considering the kind of care and medical expertise you get at Peak, we don't see it as expensive at all, just worth the value we're getting in advanced veterinary care for our dogs. Indeed, because Peak has all these specialists under the same roof, we've been able to save money by getting everything done in one place at one time, and getting a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan, all in the same day. We definitely recommend Peak, and feel lucky to have them.

We were referred to Peak by our regular vet when our dog had shown some signs of a blockage, the third one actually. After his last surgery our regular vet was not confident Zakk would survive another one, but referred us to Peak to explore other possible options. Peak did the ultrasound and confirmed it was a blockage but their confidence in being able to complete a successful surgery was refreshing. The surgery was scheduled for that afternoon and was completed successfully later that evening. Unfortunately, our boy had some life threatening complications the morning after; Peak was very attentive and notified us immediately. They care about each and every animal that walks through their door. Anytime we called or visited, we were greeted by name - and that feeling was very comforting at such a stressful time. Our boy spent a total of 10 days at Peak, after 5 days of life threatening and extremely expensive treatments, we were able to bring him home. Our bill ended just over the $18,000 mark. Our relationship with Peak, Dr.'s Miraelle and Kurt, Alicia and all the staff, has only grown since Zakk has been home. We are eternally grateful for Peak's compassion, expertise and care.

I had an overall good experience working with Dr. Hoy to resolve a eye injury my puppy had sustained by a cat claw which perforated the cornea and nicked the lens. The vet techs we dealt with are great - intelligent, caring and compassionate. Everyone took time to explain what was happening and why, and what the options were to address it. As far as cost, I feel as though BEVS (Burlington Emergency Vet Service) was much more expensive and less effective when our dog had developed a fever, came in with the e-collar and a injured eye, and they tested her for a urinary tract infection and Lymes disease (it was the eye...). All charges were explained at Peak, their drug costs were much cheaper than what my pharmacy charged for one refill of an eye drop for glaucoma ($87 at pharmacy, $34. at Peak). Dr. Hoy , the ophthalmologist was able to be contacted off-hours for questions/concerns and is confident in her work. I even got a second opinion from a Tufts Veterinary School ophthalmologist who concurred with all the treatment my pup was receiving.

I only stumbled upon PEAK due to a referral from my local vet. My dog had an extended stay at PEAK for 10 days.. He was admitted as a critical care patient. I have never been exposed to such a compassionate, dedicated, and professional group of not only doctors, but the entire staff. They showed great patience in explaining complicated analysis and diagnostics, Also, I received updates often several times a day or night, from the doctor. Meeting me after hours for emergency follow up visit. My calls with questions and observations were always responded to in a timely manner. Casey is not yet "out of the woods". but he is out of PEAK and slowly recovering...and PEAK is right there working in conjunction with my local vet to to give him the best chance of survival. Though hard to qualify when you arrive at PEAK, be assured, you get more than you pay for at PEAK...more than just a great value for sure. Regardless of Casey's outcome, I can truly objectively say that he was in the best place. Definitely, the best place he could have been. Wish they would take Casey and my others as regular patients!

I am editing my original post. I emailed the owners about my experience and after consideration the Center decided to refund my almost 1/2 my fee. The most important part was that they also took responsibility for their errors and apologized. This was as important to me as the money - I understand that we all make mistakes and I respect someone who will say, I was wrong and I'm sorry. Hopefully I will never be in the position to need emergency services again, however if so, I will probably go back to Peak if that is what is recommended. I cannot express what a negative experience we had with Peak. They totally misread the Ultrasound that they did telling me "my dog definitely had a blockage", asked for more xrays and then suggested a scope to remove the blockage. $2,188 later and my dog has Kennel Cough! My dog was there for hours and she was coughing plenty of times and they never even listed to her breathing. I will never go back to this place and will tell all pet owners I know to stay away!
