I have been taking my pugs to this hospital for over 11 years. They are caring, accessible and affordable. We have had multiple surgeries on both pugs that have gone incredibly well - no complications whatsoever. I never have to wait more than 20 minutes and the walk in feature is nice. I travel from Kent East hill just to see these guys because I haven't found anyone better in all the years I have been living in the South Sound. These guys are pros! Parking is a bit tight but they were around before Newport Hills exploded in growth and they haven't moved locations, so it's to be expected. Overall, I recommend them to everyone who is looking for a good vet.
I absolutely love the vets at this practice. They do not rush you at all when treating your pet and explain everything in clear and understandable detail. In fact, I am usually ready to leave the exam room before they are. They will offer cutting edge treatment options but are not offended if you ask questions about how much a test or treatment has the potential to alter an outcome and are not offended if you decide to defer a test or treatment or opt to take a wait and see approach. I love the fact that they are open 7 days a week and evenings and that except for evenings and Sundays they do not require a pre-scheduled appointment (of course they will fit you in in an emergency). Even without a designated appointment time it is rare that you would have to wait more than 15 minutes to see a vet. If you want to see a specific vet each time, just call ahead and see when that vet will be working, and go then. I also love the fact that they are not owned by a giant conglomerate business that is more concerned about the bottom line than patient care. I highly recommend Animal Hospital of Newport Hills!
This clinic used to be very good. Care of your pet was number 1. Unfortunately, things have changed...Now it is all about the money. We have been faithful customers for 19 years. Started noticing a change about two years ago. Noticed increased cost and if some of the procedures were really necessary. Every visit started to require blood work and x-rays. The last visit involving our cat went from $600 - $700 to over $1700... Totally understand that initial care is just an estimate and can escalate based on how the pet responds to treatment. In this recent visit, we questioned Dr. Olsen about the charges. Our goal was trying to obtain an understanding for such a dramatic increase in charges. Dr. Olsen became very annoyed that I was even asking and questioned whether I really "cared about my cat". I told her I was not questioning care just wanted to understand the increased expenses. I never had a cat with a blockage problem. Apparently, the cat did remove the urethral catheterisation because Dr. Olsen did not fit him with a bucket or collar. This resulted in him needing to be sedated a "second" time in less then 24 hours and having to tolerate a "second" Urethral Catheterisation insertion. This at the most critical point in his initial care. logically it would seem that this extended his treatment and delayed his recovery. Dr. Olsen did not agree and questioned that maybe I cared more about the cost and not my cat's health.... Apparently, I was also an irresponsible pet owner for leaving my pet and taking my son to the doctor. I was not around for a "proper discussion"? I thought we had one over the phone?.....Dr. Olsen continued her abusive verbal attack. Several times I asked her to please stop. As the pet owner, I have the right to be provided an explanation on care and expenses. There was absolutely no need for this to become a negative confrontational experience. Dr. Olsen continued with her negative judgmental attack. Listening skills, genuine concern and compassion are not her forte! Fed up with this one sided discussion, I told her I was going to end the call and not take any more of her condescending bullying abuse. Her response was to hang up. Nice professionalism! I would recommend staying away from Animal Hospital of Newport hills. Care of your pet is no longer the primary goal. Now it is all about the money$$$$$$
I had been taking my yorkie here since she was a puppy. Never had a problem because there was never a problem until Sept 29th. I took lulu there in the early evening because she had become very lifeless. I arrived at 5:15pm and was reminded two time that they do not take drop-ins after 5:00. Clearly, there was something wrong with my dog and feeling quite sick myself, I didn't really need to be reminded that I had arrived 15 min after drop-in had ended. After bringing my dog there for 10 years, I would expect a little more consideration. So after an exam, blood work, xrays, the vet could not come up with any real reason Lulu was so lethargic. She said that they would need to send the xrays out for further review and I would receive news in the morning. Well, I rushed Lulu back at 8:30pm and she died pretty much in my arms on the way there. I really don't know how a dog is perfectly healthy one day and dead the next. I'm don't understand how you can send a dog home saying we will get back to you in the morning and have the dog die 3 hours later. I guess I would be very careful which vets you see because clearly the one I saw was not very helpful.
Dr Kozenkrans overdosed my 8 pound dog with twice the level of anesthesia during a dental cleaning. Had this happened to an older dog, they probably would not have lived. How can one not weigh a dog before surgery and none the less confuse an 8 pound dog with a 16 pound dog.
