We have used Kris, Holly and the rest of the folks at Capital Hill Animal Clinic for years and love them. They are attentive, caring, experienced and we find them to be just excellent in every way. We have two boys (cats) that run our household and we trust CHAC for their care. As an example of the care they provide, when one of our cats had his teeth cleaned and while he was coming out of the anesthetic one of the staff was carrying him around doing their other tasks so he would be comforted during this 'waking up'. So, picture our cat wrapped in a towel, being carried around while doing other tasks, and being comforted by staff while he was waking up - isn't this the same you would do if you were there?
I don't know why there are so many negative reviews here! i've brought my cat mercury here for ten years. Once she had to get kidney dialysis, and they said she might not survive, but she did...they had her overnight. When I took her home, they gave me needles and water; they carefully showed me how to inject the iv; and they provided lower protein foods for her..When i had her numbers rechecked a year later, their doctor called me and told me that new studies had shown that to continue watering the cat could sometimes produce more side affects and be less help, so I reduced the watering to hot days or when my cat seemed sluggish. I've found their honesty refreshing and I was surprised to see so many chastizing reviews as they have only ever been helpful and flexible.
I have not taken my cat here before, but I buy her prescription food here. I moved from the eastside, and she was originally prescribed over there, and this is the only clinic I called that would allow me to just buy the prescription food without forcing my cat to undergo another examination. I appreciate that they trust me to be a competant care provider for my pet, and that they aren't trying to get the exam fees out of me when all I want to do is buy the food.
My experience with this veterinary clinic has been thus: a) PROBLEMATIC: my cat was seen by one veterinarian in August for a concern (cat was falling), and had a full blood panel done. 2 months later, when I called in for a second appointment, received a call back from a different veterinarian (this time Dr. Boudreaux herself) stating that my cat her hyperthyroid based on the blood panel done previously. In other words, she went UNDIAGNOSED for 2 months in respect to the hyperthyroid, which possibly was a contributing factor to the seizures/strokes she may have experienced which caused her to fall (original reason of appointment). b) PROBLEMATIC and INAPPROPRIATE: In current treatment for hyperthyroid, my cat developed skin reactions to the medication (applied as a gel). Called the veterinary repeatedly, only to speak to someone at the front desk who said the symptoms I described were "fine" and "normal." Finally decided to go to a second veterinarian, who examined the cat and concluded that the skin reaction was probably due to the gel. LACK OF COMMUNICATION with veterinarians and technicians/reception staff waving away patient concerns without following up with veterinarian leads to MISDIAGNOSIS and needless discomfort to cat. c) PROBLEMATIC and UNPROFESSIONAL: Requested copies of records be sent to new veterinary, and had copies made for myself. At the new veterinarian, found out a) incomplete records were sent over, including missing report by a neurological consult, and b) most unprofessionally, the records sent to me were DOCTORED - meaning, certain contents were excised/omitted. Specifically, comments made by the veterinarian regarding my statement that the cat wasn't eating the K/D diet prescribed were interpreted by the veterinarian as "I don't think the owner wants to feed them." Having made that unverifiable and unfounded claim about me, the owner, she then excised it from the records sent to me, so I wouldn't see it, while leaving it for the next veterinary to see. The comments are unfounded and unprofessional, and the behavior is reprehensible and harmful to the cat (full and complete documents should have been faxed over by the vet). In essence, untrustworthy, reprehensible, unprofessional, inappropriate and simply problematic. You and your animal may suffer from this behavior.
THEY ONLY TAKE CATS AND DOGS!? I called them from this address because my budgie (the type of parakeet you can buy or adopt from ANYWHERE in the US, and one of the most common pets in the US), had hit her blood feather and, though the bleeding had stopped, I wanted to pull the feather to make sure she wouldn't run the risk of bleeding again. When I called the woman was polite, but informed me they only take cats and dogs... Let me repeat that... ONLY TAKE CATS AND DOGS!? Apart from Avian and Exotic Clinic (AAEC), there doesn't seem to be any other vets close to down town that take budgies and it's ridiculous. I couldn't use AAEC because the vet isn't in today and it doesn't count as much of an emergency, so my only other option was to pay $40 for a cab to drive me to East side Avian and Exotic vet and get them to treat my budgie, or to sit on it for a day and take her the next day to AAEC. Very frustrated that this website says they treat other animals but all they take is Dogs and Cats. Also incredibly frustrated that only 2 clinics in all of Seattle take budgies. This is beyond stupid.
