I started taking my old man kitty to the Cat Doctor when I learned about the blood pressure study. I was starting to get concerned because he was losing weight and his eyes were becoming cloudy. I learned that his blood pressure was high and he also was having thyroid issues. They referred us to an a specialist for his eyes (who would of thought there is a specialist for cat eyes!). The service and staff have been amazing and due to the wonderful care we are receiving we think that my 18 year old kitty will have several more years and a better quality of life. His eyes are now clear and his labs come out great. I would highly recommend the Cat Doctor. They have state of the art equipment and a staff that are passionate about caring for cats!
I will never bring a cat here again. I adopted a 4yo male from the humane society, and was given a voucher for a free vet visit. I had wanted to take my cat to my regular vet clinic (I've gone to them most of my life for a succession of four family dogs and a friend's Himalayan cat) but they are located 50 miles away from where I currently live. I was nervous because my new cat wasn't eating or going to the bathroom much, but I know that isn't uncommon for cats in new environments. Unfortunately, he started sneezing a lot, and I was concerned about a possible infection from the shelter. He also needed his claws trimmed, because he got stuck on all fabrics, my couch, and the carpet, and it made it difficult for him to walk much. I brought my cat to the Cat Dr because I was recommended by a friend. The lobby staff was nice and got me an appointment that fit with my work schedule and the day of the appt, I didn't have to wait outside of processing the paperwork for a new pet. The Cat Dr. is a different story. She wasn't especially friendly with my cat, or gentle about looking in his eyes/ears/mouth. I'm no stranger to fussy animals, but I also know that demeanor can make the difference between a grouchy pet and an angry beast. The sneezing was immediately diagnosed as FVR, despite any other symptoms than sneezing. This meant my cat would need lysine and antibiotics. My cat was not interested in treats, either soft or hard, or the paste, but that did not stop the vet from shoving treats down his throat repeatedly, and smearing paste on his mouth repeatedly. Again, no stranger to giving out various forms of animal meds, but there is an effective way and an ineffective way. My cat had not hissed or attempted to bite/claw at a person before this, and hasn't since. She trimmed his claws so roughly that he now attacks scissors and gets too skittish for me to trim his claws with my own trimmer- we go to my regular vet for that so neither of us gets hurt. When the Cat Dr left the room and returned with a jar of toys, she pushed him in the face with the jar to get him to back up. Maybe the vet had had a long day, maybe she was tired or just wanted to go home. But it's no excuse for such improper handling of a new, possibly ill, definitely stressed cat. His sneezes cleared up after a few days with no lysine or antibiotics (lysine gave him massive runs, didn't start the antibiotics because the sneezing stopped), and he was only mildly distressed when we went to my regular vet- even when getting his blood drawn. He has since been given a negative diagnosis of everything, including FVR. In short, my cat was traumatized because of needlessly rough vet handling, and my supposedly free visit cost me $30+ for drugs my cat didn't need. It would have been more, but I had them cancel the fecal testing they wanted to charge me for in advance.
I cannot say enough about The Cat Doctor. Dr. Christensen and her staff are so compassionate and kind and professional. There is nothing quite like taking your cat to a place that specializes in feline care. There are no dogs to encounter and frighten, and there are people there who will love up on your kitty, talk to your kitty to make him or her as comfortable as possible. Everyone who is there truly loves felines and understands them. I am fairly certain that every staff person is a cat owner, too. I have been a customer pretty much since the start back in 1998. I needed help with my 18 month old cat Oscar who was diagnosed with Diabetes. My previous vet was not supportive of home glucose monitoring and we were having trouble getting Oscar regulated with Insulin. I found Dr Christensen through the Feline Diabetes online forum. She was a Godsend back then. She more than supported home glucose monitoring and had the knowledge and experience with the tricky disease known as Feline Diabetes. Oscar was regulated quickly and lived to be 11 years old and never once had a complication from it. I gave him Insulin twice daily and used PZI -- the Insulin with the best results in cats that I was able to obtain with Dr. C's help. My kitty that I have now -- Feliz who is 16 years old -- has had medical problems too. She is hyperthyroid and it took awhile to get that straightened out. Dr. C has brought her back from the brink of death twice. Once with pancreatitis, and most recently last December with a serious infection and kidney failure. When I brought her in for that, I was a wreck. I didn't know what I should do. Faced with lots of tests, treatment and hospitalization and all of the associated costs I was unsure what to do. I loved my then 15 1/2 year old cat but I had to be realistic. Dr C completely understood how hard this was on me. She recommended a few days of treatment in the hospital ward to try to get the infection under control and then re-evaluate. That was exactly what I needed and turned out to be EXACTLY what Feliz needed. She turned around and is doing well today. Dr. C's experience was invaluable then and is still invaluable today. I cannot imagine taking my cat any place else. P.S. I have read some negative reviews here and all I can say is that I have never had anything remotely close to what these people have experienced in all the years I have been a client. I've even used their boarding services many, many times and have loved it.
I like Dr. Christensen, and I know she is a cat lover too. I have taken different cats there over the years. She is a bit far for me to go to now as I live in Big Bend. I have never had a bad experience there.
Great caring service, and great location for downtown condo dwellers.
