My husband, Corey Stillman, also wrote a review about his experiences with his dog, Jake. I'm going to spend a little bit of time writing about my personal experiences during the last days with my old, faithful dog, Brewer. Brewer was diagnosed with a heart tumor about 1 month ago. I called Dr. Vitale's office after 6 (they are supposed to close at 6, but luckily for me, Allison still answered the phone at 6:15 when I frantically called). I explained what had happened, and she reassured me that I needed to take Brewer to the emergency clinic for immediate care. Fast forward one (exceptionally stressful) day, and I received terrible news from the emergency clinic saying Brewer had a heart tumor. After hanging up with the emergency room vet, I immediately called Dr. Vitale. Why? Because he's so knowledgeable and trustworthy. Even though Brewer hadn't been in to see Dr. Vitale for a while, when I called, Dr. Vitale knew right away who I was and who Brewer was. I explained everything that had happened, and Dr. Vitale filled in any details I had left out - he knew exactly what I was trying to explain and could also describe exactly what had been done at the emergency room because Dr. Vitale was previously an emergency room vet before opening his own practice. He walked me through all of the information I had been given by the emergency clinic, explained it all in terms I could understand, discussed my options, and had a plan with next steps and what to expect when Brewer came home. Brewer goes to the Sun Prairie Pet Clinic every week day while I'm at work. Sue and Allison keep an eye on him, and I can focus while I'm at work knowing that Brewer is in exceptionally capable hands. I also find great comfort knowing that, when the time comes for Brewer to leave this life, Dr. Vitale and his staff will mourn the passing of my wonderful pet with me. If there is one word I had to use to describe Dr. Vitale, it's EMPOWERING. As a pet owner, I love my dog. I usually know what he's thinking or when he's getting ready to get into trouble. But when things go wrong, I don't know what to do - but Dr. Vitale does. He explains the problem, gives you various solutions and recommendations, and then he listens and answers your questions. He helps you do what's best for you pet, and he is extremely honest. The staff at Dr. Vitale's office is AMAZING. Sue and Allison are so kind and knowledgeable. They spend extra time with you and truly care about your pet. I drive by multiple other vets on my way to Dr. Vitale's office, and I would never consider having a different primary vet. We have been taking our dogs to Dr. Vitale for years, and when I walk into the clinic, I feel like family. I would not hesitate to recommend this pet clinic to anyone, and Dr. Vitale has my permission to give out my phone number if you ever want a reference before taking your pet to his office. Thank you for all you do, wonderful folks at the Sun Prairie Pet Clinic. You are a blessing to your clients and their pets!
I wish I could rate this higher... About 18 months ago, my dear best friend (my poodle terrier mix named Jake) passed away at the age of 19.5. Jake was my childhood dog who died two months before my 30th birthday. After I bought my adult home, Jake came with me. Dr. Vitale was responsible for the last three years of this dogs care, and he cared for this pet as it was his own. On his first visit we ordered a blood lab to be taken and it showed kidney values that posed concerns and in his words had teeth that would kill a horse. We took his recommendations put him on a daily antibiotic to treat his teeth and fed him his special food and Jake continued to be Jake. One day in his last year he wasn't doing so well (on a Sunday) and we were worried about him. We called and left a message for him to try to set up a Monday appointment...try to get in first thing. He called us back and met us at the clinic on Sunday!!! He also saw Jake one time when his clinic got torn up in an emergency construction and his clinic was for the most part closed...except when one of his patients needs immediate assistance. The last week of his life was rough...which included several after hours calls to the clinic which were promptly returned with great instructions to make Jake as comfortable as possible. We made the appointment at the end of his day to lay Jake to rest and as we were getting ready to leave Jake passed on all on his own without assistance. I cannot forget to mention every single employee who worked there who knew exactly who Jake was too....and how special he was to all of us. For someone so dear to me for so long, for us to receive the service from this clinic is astounding. As my examples show, Jake was as important to them as he was to me. Jake is still near and dear to me, I think about him every day. His dog collar hangs in my car, and we have not gotten another dog because his memory continues to be stronger than the want of another puppy. Thanks for everything you did for my dog, saying you went over and beyond the call of duty gives a description that sells it short.
As the parents, and family (2 and 3 year old) of a new puppy, our first trip to the vet was quite the adventure. The office staff was friendly and accommodating, our Dr. was informative, helpful and extremely knowledgable. He made suggestions about our current routine and care, and expressed his anticipation to get to know us, and our new family member. The ideal of a long term relationship was refreshing. The cost of the exam and vaccinations received was affordable. I truly believe that we made a great choice in our new family vet!
Dr. Vitale and his staff are truly dedicated to their profession of veterinary medicine. I am amazed at the compassion, knowledge and time given to my pets and myself. When my 18yr. black lab was at the end of her life I was devastated but I knew they would not let her suffer or feel pain. The empathy and tears were in the room for all of us when she died and I knew at that time I had chosen my life time vet and his staff. Thank you Dr. Vitale, Sue and Allison for being there and doing what you do it means so much to me. I would recommend your clinic to anyone who is looking for a veterinarian.
