AVH takes the best care of my cats. I've been going there since we moved to town and I had a cat emergency. For those with negative reviews, it's really important to note that there are two different businesses at this location that are not associated with each other. At night and on Sundays, there is a separately owned emergency vet service that isn't part of AVH. They just provide emergency services after hours. Dr. Schneider, who founded AVH, his daughter, Dr. Cullom, and their associate, Dr. Jow are really tremendously kind and caring vets who go out of their way to keep owners informed. The techs are all kind and gentle with my cats and very helpful to me. I really wouldn't take my cats anywhere else for their regular care. After-hours, I would probably drive up to ACCESS in Renton. For everything else though, I go here.
Most everyone except the doctors are extremely difficult to communicate with. I don't know if they are not paying attention or what and I'm not going to go into details, but it has been very frustrating. You can't get the vets on the phone because the people up front won't let you... but miss they miss the crux of the reason for your call when it's explained clearly. While I feel like the doctor I encountered was knowledgable, the approach seems like shots in the dark rather than a targeted approach. I know I'm not a vet but I know my animal and its behaviors better than the vet ever will during his limited time with it. I feel like my input should be taken more seriously. I understand that it's good to test for everything under the sun but when it all comes back negative again and again and they keep pushing for testing things that are less and less likely the culprit (especially when he was a rescue that was thoroughly tested before we even got him, paperwork included) it makes me begin to wonder if I'm not just being squeezed for cash. They still can't tell me what the problem is. Find somewhere else. This place is amateur--at best.
My cousin's Mini shithzu got attacked and we drove him straight to the vet, but they wouldn't treat him because it wasn't after 6 yet. Since we were there for awhile me and my cousin went to the bathroom when we passed the kennel room a dog who was whining got yelled at to "shut up". The vet was very rude to us and the dog and did not seen to like his job, will never go there again
I will keep this very simple. I asked for a quote to treat my dogs serious medical condition. I needed to make a tough decision. Should I treat my dog or put him down. These were my only choices at the time. I was given two quotes. A high and low estimate. Based on these quotes, I decided to go ahead with surgery. After successful treatment of my dog and I was told that treatment went without a hitch. I picked up my dog and my bill. They exceeded my High estimate by over six hundred dollars. The on duty staff apologized for such a big difference and said that the on duty Vet should have gave me a higher quote. Low estimate was $2,100, I payed $3,500. I have used other emergency clinics in the past and I have no problem with the high bills if I'm quoted honestly. I will never use this clinic again and suggest you don't either. My advice is to look up all your emergency clinics phone numbers in your area and program those numbers in your phone before an emergency happens. I wouldn't recommended this clinic!
This is a review of the emergency after hours clinic. Pros: Open all nights, weekends, and holidays - when all other vets are closed. Call and tell them what's wrong and when you're coming, and you'll be seen relatively soon, depending on how many other pets are there. Cost is pretty darn low for an emergency clinic - $65, plus whatever other medical procedures you agree to. I called and asked if it was normal for a pregnant cat to have loose stool with blood in it, and the lady that answered asked the vet and then told me I should probably bring her in. I was impressed that she didn't simply say "I don't know, but you should bring her in." Staff was fantastic. Hardly any wait time. Paperwork easy to fill out. Vet doesn't seem terribly compassionate, but he gave her a shot and I got some medicine. He explained things brusquely but clearly. I hate taking my cats to the vet, but this was a quick, relatively painless visit. Highly recommended for emergency after-hours visits.
